Direct Shipping to California (New Restriction since January 1, 2026)
Under California Assembly Bill 1263 (AB-1263), as of January 1, 2026, barrels and many firearm parts can no longer be shipped directly to a consumer’s home address in California without compliance steps. Many manufacturers and retailers now only ship those items to a California-licensed FFL dealer (just like a serialized receiver) because of the new verification and compliance requirements imposed by the state.
- This change affects standalone firearm barrels — previously considered unserialized parts and not regulated like firearms — meaning you can no longer ship them into California to a private resident without meeting these requirements.
- Sellers have widely interpreted the law as requiring delivery to an FFL instead of to a private address for these regulated items.
